From the clinic to the schools.
Here's the story of how we started our mobile screening service.
High Level Speech & Hearing Center was founded in 2016 by New Orleans audiologist and graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Lana Joseph. Dr. Joseph's personal journey with speech and hearing challenges as a child inspired a lifelong commitment to helping children receive early intervention services. What began as a mission rooted in empathy and experience quickly grew into a trusted resource for families across Louisiana.
The practice initially opened with two clinic locations—one Uptown and one in Elmwood—serving children and families in need of speech and hearing care. In 2021, following Hurricane Ida, both clinic locations sustained damage and were forced to temporarily close for repairs. During this period, we identified a critical gap in access to care.
We observed that only 20–50% of scheduled appointments were being attended. Parents consistently shared frustrations about rigid work schedules, transportation challenges, and clinic hours limited to 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, which made it difficult to bring their children in for services.
In response, High Level Speech & Hearing Center launched its mobile screening services initiative, bringing speech and hearing care directly to schools and communities. By offering mobile screenings to Louisiana schools and daycare centers, we provide convenient, flexible solutions that better serve our community’s needs and help ensure all children receive the essential screenings they deserve.
Today, we proudly provide speech, vision, and hearing screening services to over 100 daycare centers and 50 schools throughout Louisiana, expanding access to essential early intervention services statewide.
